AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MAYUR PATEL |
I took entry into sports as Cricketer during my school life. I was left arm bowler.
However I left Chess due to hinderance in vision as I had defect in ratina by birth.
My parents always gave me freedom to do what I wanted. Moreover I had fish, birds,
dogs etc. as my pets in childhood. I have deep love for vocal music and Mukesh,
Rafi, Kishor Kumar and Lata are some of my liked singers. I also took part in many
music competitions during my college life. I started my career as Chess player in
1976 and used to play Chess and practice it at Mirzapur footpath.
I got my victory
in Chess for the first time in 1979 as Sub-junior Chess Champion and then after
Junior State Champion. I won University Championship for 3 times and represented
Inter University between 1980 to 1985 where I was team captain.
I met Vinay Parikh
then who used to accompany me in Chess at Mirzapur Peoples' Chess Club and Gujarat
Club (Lal Darwaja). In 1986 I became State Champion and so represented National
B at Mizoram. I have played in several National and International competitions.
I was having rating of 2096 in 1990 which was 2045 in 2010. |

As a Organisor and State Association Career: |
I was selected as a Committee Member in 1986. Then after I joined as a Treasurer
for 8 years, Joint Secretary for 4 years, Vice President for 4 years, Secretary
for 5 years and 6 years as a Secretary of Gujarat State Chess Association. I and
Vinay Parikh were also committee member. We spent 15 years as a committee member
of All India Chess Federation.
I established "Fischer Chess Club" in 1992 as I was
admiror of Bobby Fischer and my favourite book is "My 60 Memorable Game" by Bobby
Fischer. Under the banner of Fischer Chess Club, I organised a lot of State level
tournaments and festivals of Chess and Nationals as under : U-13 National Chess
Championship - Rajpath Club U-7 National Chess Championship - Sun-n-Step Club U-9
National Chess Championship - Nirman School National "B" Senior-II - Karnavati Club
International rating Chess Tournament - Anand Niketan School U-17 National Chess
Championship - Karnavati Club U-25 National Chess Championship - Sun-n-Step Club |

Prestigious and Big Organisor: |

In 2008 Ajay Patel, President Ahmedabad District Bank and Amit
Shah (Home Minister, Gujarat) organised coaching camp at Riffle Club. 1500 teacher
from different part of Gujarat participated in this coaching camp. I was as a Chief
Coach. Ajay Patel gave big pushing to Chess and Mr. Narendra Modi, Hon. Chief Minister
of Gujarat introduced Chess in all schools of Ahmedabad and started big role to
push up brain development and decision power of child. |

Guinness World Record: |
Hon. Chief Minister of Gujarat, India Shri Narendra Modi wanted to break record
of Mexico where 13,440 chess players played simultaneous. In may, 2010 I started
work as a Secretary. Me and my team had big task to find out 1,200 master players
who can play simultaneous with 20,000 players. Gujarat State Chess Association team
started coaching in different district. Finally we found out 1100 masters and 20,000
players. 78,000 students wanted to participat in Swarnim Chess Mahotsav, 2010. Finally
Sports Authority of Gujarat, NIIT and Gujarat State Chess Association made this
event a successful on 24th December, 2010. 20,017 players were played and 1024 master
played in this event.
World Champion Vishwanathan Anand rang start bell at 14:35
and almost 85% games were over with in 90 minutes at 17:15. Shri Narendra Modi,
Hon. Chief Minister of Gujarat received "World Record Certificate" from Tarika Wala
of Guinness World Record. She told that she was very happy that 20,017 players played
chess with pint of silence and 116 blind players participated in this event including
6 blind masters which touched my heart. After several sleepless night, I got relief
when all my master scored 96% victory. Thanks to Mr. Narendra Modi to give me a
chance in such a huge event. I give honour to all my team workers and masters for
grand success. |

As a Coach: |
I started my chess career as a coach from 1996 by giving personal coaching and club
coaching at Sun-n-Step. During my coaching, I produced lot of winning players at
State Level and National Level. Mr. Ankit Rajpara was my student upto State Level
and now-a-days he is International Master. Selection as a Coach of Indian Team:
In 2004, I was selected as a Coach cum Manager of Grand Master Man and Women team.
Tournament was at Czech Republic, pardubics and allomouk. That was my first experience
to visit foreign country. Five leading man grand master and five women grand master
took part in this event. I spent 30 days in Czech Republic.
2005:
I was appointed
as a Coach of Indian Team in Asian Youth Chess Championship played at Delhi, India
and got 24 medals out of 35.
2006:
I was appointed as a Coach of India Team for
World Youth played at Georgia where Indian players captured 4 Gold Medals in different
categories.
2005:
I was in Greece as a Coach of Miss Kajari Chokshi in World Youth
and Asian Youth at Singapore. During my Chess journey, friends like Dr. Sanjay Tolia,
Porus Patel, Tarun Shah, Vinay Parikh including my whole family give me a good support.
In organisation Mr. Uday Asarpota, Ajay Patel, Rakesh Shah, Bhavesh Patel, Samir
Patel also supported. In 2011 I am going to organise U-11 National Tournament in
May. Thanks to all Chess Lovers and our all office barrers of Gujarat State Chess
Association. |
